Character Information
Name: The Hunter
Series: Bloodborne
Appearance: 1 | 2
Age: Early 30s.
Canon Point: The Old Hunters DLC, seconds before landing the killing blow on the Orphan of Kos.
Canon History: Bloodborne wiki | The Old Hunters DLC | The Hunter
Although it's largely cosmetic and only really affects your beginning stats, the player can choose the Hunter's background Origin. This Hunter comes from the Violent Past Origin.
Canon Personality: The Hunter is, without a doubt, a incredibly determined individual. Coming to Yharnam for a cure to a disease, he is thrown into a nightmare of horror, blood and death yet keeps going. He shows little fear when it comes to fighting the beasts - although Eileen does comment there is some fear within him, even if that is a good thing in the end. But regardless, the Hunter uses all of his determination and deaths to continue on until he reaches his goals.
Beyond that, the Hunter does demonstrate some level of kindness. He can go out of his way to find a safe haven for various NPCs across Yharnam and help out others like Eileen. However - tainted blood aside - the Hunter is still human. He can choose wrong and send people to their death and there's no way to save Gascoigne's children beyond not talking to them. He's quite aware of it - despite his best intentions very few sidequests in Bloodborne end well and the Hunter knows he cannot save everyone. The Violent Past Origin notes he's 'rash, but stronger for it'. Due to this and the nature of the nightmare that is the Hunter's world, he may have a difficult time immediately getting along with the less human residents of LifeAftr.
Aside from his determination to find a cure for himself, the Hunter is also a rather curious person. The Hunter is shown touching objects - even if it's things like large skulls that induce flashbacks - just to see what they are or what they'll do. This is best shown in the DLC a few times. The Hunter can comment he is interested in nightmares to an NPC and Lady Maria comments on his 'wild curiosity' prior to her boss fight. And indeed, there isn't anything keeping the Hunter in the Nightmare beyond his own curiosity and determination to find out what happened. Easing the minds of the Doll and Gehrman are something that happens as a result of defeating the Orphan of Kos, not the Hunter's end-goal.
He's also not against doing stupid poses to get Ruins. Hey, whatever helps him survive a little bit longer.
Personality Shifts: N/A
Abilities: Coming from the Violent Past Origin, the Hunter has high strength and moderate vitality and endurance, able to take and dish out hits as they come. Able to wield a varity of weapons and handguns, the Hunter is a force to be reckoned with. However, due to the fact that he has very low Bloodtinge and Arcane as a result of his Origin the Hunter isn't a master of firearms nor weapons that offer elemental damage - a Sorcerer, he is not. His fighting style is basically 'shot a thing and then don't stop hitting it until it dies'. Or he dies. Again.
If the Hunter manages to knock something down, he can preform a Visceral Attack by jamming his hand into their gut to cause a lot of damage. If hit himself, the Hunter can regain his health if he hits the enemy back. The catch is that he has to do it immediately - take too long and nothing will happen.
The Hunter's blood can be used to create Quicksilver Bullets that are used as ammo for his gun and some weapons. This process unsurprisingly hurts the Hunter to do so and can only produce five bullets at once.
Finally there is the matter of Insight. Although it may not matter much in LifeAftr, Insight allows the Hunter to see things humans normally can't - or "The Insight stat represents the depth of inhuman knowledge.", as quoted from the wiki. The Hunter will be coming into LifeAftr with 15 Insight.
In terms of nerfs, I'll start with Bloodborne's weapons as they're kinda ridiculous. To prevent him from stockpiling weapons, I suggest that on top of how many stories are required to obtain them, the Hunter will have to exchange his current weapon/firearm for them. So if he wants Ludwing's Rifle, he'll have to give up the Hunter's Blunderbuss for it and so on.
As for the Quicksilver Bullets, he will only be able to create them himself once a week and only when he's completely out of bullets. For example, if he creates fives bullets and then asks for five more from the Storyteller, he'll have to wait until all ten are used before the Hunter can use this ability again.
Inventory:
- the clothing on his back.
- Saw Cleaver. A trick weapon that can transform into a longer version with a swing of the arm to increase range and power.
- Hunter Blunderbuss. A gun that uses one Quicksilver Bullet to nail enemies with a shotgun-like blast.
- x5 Quicksilver Bullets.
- x5 Blood Vials. Vials of blood that can be injected into the leg for healing.

Q&A
Are all lives equal, or are some lives more important than others?
[A shrug. As much as the curiosity the Hunter holds within himself, questions like these were not ones that he pondered often. A scholar of life, he was not.]
People are the same to me, man or beast. They die the same too, if they come after my life.
Describe your greatest achievement.
[That's a better question.]
There was a beast in the old part of Yharnam that killed me many times. I do not often take pride in my kills, but I did feel quite accomplished for defeating it.
[And indeed it does sound that way. Yay for not dying from poison for the nth time!]
To you, what would be considered an unforgivable action by someone else?
I am not in a position to often judge others.
[There were very few lines a Hunter would cross in an effort to stay alive and the Hunter himself had no interest in pretending he was a saint.]
But I do not like what the Healing Church has done in the past.
[From what he's read, anyways.]
What is your most valuable possession?
[He has to think about that for a minute, mostly because the Hunter did not own many personal objects. So he will settle on the obvious:]
My weapons. Without them I would not survive for as long as I have.
What is the hardest thing you’ve ever done?
[It's...quite a list, when he stops to think about it. But that's why the Hunter never stopped in the first place. He can pick one out, however.]
Telling a girl her mother was dead.
[And, well, everything that followed. But the Hunter will not elaborate further. He had to move on.]
If you were to die, how would you want to go out?
I cannot die.
[It's a blunt answer, but the Hunter sees little point in beating around the bush. Death is something not yet granted to him. Maybe later, but not now. However-]
If it was granted to me, then I think I would like to fall asleep. [Even if he's well aware that when death finally comes to him it'll be yet another violent death.] But I will not dwell long on it.
[He has much to do before he rests.]
What are some regrets you have?
[The Hunter is silent for a time. A girl he could not find her mother for her, a father lost to the madness of the beast. The only friendly man in Yharnam slowly losing himself to the illness that plagued the city. The fishing village within the Nightmare, even if those events were far, far before the Hunter's time.]
I have many regrets but I will not dwell on them either. All I will say is that I am aware I cannot save everyone.
[And that is that.]
